Classroom Update: March 12-16th

I think we have finally hit Spring in Michigan! The weather this weekend has been wonderful. I hope that you were able to spend some of it outside! For those of you that are Michigan fans....WOW! What a game! I'm sure proud to be an alumni this weekend!

Highlights from this week:

-We had another successful book fair this week. It was so exciting to see everyone leave with new and gently used books and to see everyones' noses in books throughout the week.

-The Red Cross visited us to talk about the Pillowcase Project. Students learned about being safe and prepared during emergencies and got to take home a pillowcase along with a booklet to work on as a family. This is a great resource to go through together to talk about a family plan for different emergency situations.

-We had the wonderful opportunity to perform with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra at Hill Auditorium. I never knew recorders could sound so wonderful! To hear a clip of our performance, check out our classroom Twitter!

-We had special visitors this week from the University of Michigan including my mom! They shared how robotics are used in rehabilitation to connect with our PLTW unit. Students had the chance to see different robotics at work and experience how a person can use a robot to walk again after being paralyzed! You can see a clip of this on our Twitter too!

-We started a new math unit this week. You should have seen a new packet of homelinks come home!

-Students have made so much progress on their research projects! We have been revising and editing and will start to think about how to present our final work soon!

Upcoming dates, events, and notes:

-We will be going to the DIA this Tuesday. Please be sure that your child has returned their permission slips so that they can participate in this experience. If you are interested in being a chaperone and have not spoken with me about it yet, we are still in need of 2 people!

-Join us for the Dr. Seuss literacy night this Wednesday! Don't forget your PJs

-Spring break begins at the end of the week! Enjoy this special time with your family!
