Whether you are watching the Super Bowl today or not, I hope you're enjoying the end of your weekend.
Highlights from this week:
-We had a successful bingo and chili night on Monday! Thank you to those that could attend.
-In PLTW we tested out the robot obstacle course and did our final trials to find the fastest time.
-We started reading our National Geographic books and are learning about informational text structures.
-We have started our new math unit and are working more with fractions again and building upon our fraction unit from earlier this year.
-Our research is going well and almost everyone is starting to take notes on their topics!
-We had a naturalist visit our classroom to tell us more about our upcoming winter survival trip.
Upcoming dates, events, and notes:
-Our winter survival field trip is this Thursday from 9:30-2pm. If your child has not turned in their form, please do so as soon as possible. See below for a few final reminders.
-Bagel Friday is this Friday starting at 8:15am
Winter Survival Reminders:
Please remember to help your child pack ALL of the necessary items needed for cooking.
Things to remember:
They will need a jacket, boots, warm socks (wool preferred) and gloves. NO scarves please as dangling things can catch on fire. Long hair should be tied back. Tennis shoes are NOT permitted!
WATER!!!! Not just SEALED water bottles, but water to cook with and to drink. One student size water bottle is generally not enough water for each child. More than one student in the group should be bringing water.
Do NOT send children with paper bags (they break and rip and get wet). Everything should fit into a backpack or should be able to attach to a backpack for your child to carry. We will have to walk into our site with all of our things and it is a little bit of a walk.
Food! Don't forget to pack the food, utensils, and cookware your child signed up to bring for the group. Remember that the food they should be bringing is food they are cooking over the fire. PLEASE DO NOT SEND JUNK FOOD LIKE CHIPS. But, Smore's are okay!
Menus have been set, approved by teachers, and signed by parents. Please do NOT add food items as we have students with food allergies! Please make sure there is enough for everyone in their group too.
PLEASE REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF PACKAGING COMING ON THE TRIP. PLEASE PREPACK FOOD ITEMS IN REUSABLE CONTAINERS. There is a game the students will be playing called:
PERFECT SCORE!
The clean-up game has a perfect score of ZERO. This means the FIRE is OUT and all the TRASH is REMOVED. Sound easy? It's not - volunteer naturalists are REALLY good at spotting even the tiniest bits of trash: clear plastic knife, bits of foil, one popcorn kernel, etc. It takes careful work for every group in a class to ensure a perfect score. Everyone has to help!
If you haven't looked at the Winter Survival website yet, please do so.
