Quick Questions

Snack:

Students are welcome to bring a healthy snack to eat in the morning during our designated snack time.

Birthday Celebrations:

We would love to celebrate your child's birthday at school! Please let me know a week in advance that your child would like to have a classroom celebration so that we can set aside a time to sing Happy Birthday and pass out any treats that are sent in. Only non-food treats are allowed at King for these celebrations. A few ideas for treats would be mechanical pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. If your child has a summer birthday, we can celebrate their half-birthday. If your child's birthday happens to fall on a day that we do not have school, we can celebrate on the next school day. If your child is having a birthday party outside of school and would like to pass out invitations, they may do so before or after school. We don't want any hurt feelings if someone isn't invited!

Homework:

Homework can be found in your child's homework binder. This binder will also contain information from school such as field trip forms and notes as needed. Please review this folder daily with your child and complete work as it is given. I view homework as extra practice and because of this, homework will not be collected on most occasions. If it does need to be sent back, there will be special instructions. Please complete homework and check it together. If your child is struggling to complete part of their homework, please do send it back and I can assist your child in understanding the concept better. Whenever possible, your child should keep paperwork at home and return their folder empty. If your child was absent when homework was passed out, it is their responsibility to get their homework from our absent folder or from their math book.

Behavior:

King uses a program called Responsive Classroom. This consists of rewarding positive behaviors, building community, and teaching the whole child. I firmly believe that students thrive in this type of environment. We will spend time at the beginning of the year to build this community and learn about each other. After learning about a few life skills and guidelines that I start with, the class will work together to establish a classroom constitution that outlines the responsibilities and rules for the class. Students will also reflect weekly on their progress and set goals for things they would like to improve on.
